Direct Mail Layout Tips

When designing pieces for direct mail purposes, there are a few tips:
- If you are doing postcard mailing, there is a thickness requirement for the paper. It needs to be 68 lb card stock and higher. At 3Q Printing Press, our standard is 12 point card stock with uv-coating on the front.
- You have to have 200 minimum pieces that are the same size, same format, and same weight in order for US Post Office to accept your mailing. At 3Q Printing Press, we constantly receive a lot of postcard direct mail orders, our minimum is 50 pieces to our clients.
- On the address side, whether it's a postcard, newsletter, and etc., the mailing address area has ben to 1/8 inch away from any text, and graphics.
- Some people believe that you have to do barcodes in order to do direct mail (bulk mail). You do not have to have barcordes in order to utilize USPS discounted rate. You will be paying a few cents more than barcoded pieces, however, you still get a discount rate at the postage.
