To Print Bleed or No Bleed, that's the question!

What does bleed mean in printing business?

It is a term that describes printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet after trimming. If you look at a piece of printing material, and the color does not go all the way to the edge of the paper, then it is not bleed printing. If the color goes to the edge of the paper, then it is bleed printing.

What is the specification for setting up bleed in printing?

Bleeds in general are setup as 1/8 inch on the side. So for example, using 3Q Printing Press' jumbo postcard format, the actual postcard size is 8.25 inch by 5.5 inch. When the bleed is setup, you add on 1/8 of an inch (0.125 inch on each side), what that means is the print file is 8.75 inch by 5.5 inch after bleed is setp. Bleed setting usually varies based on the printer you use.
